Giacomo Fenocchio, Barolo Castellero 2017

Flag of Italy

The vineyards and winery of Giacomo Fenocchio was established by its namesake in his native Piedmont in 1864. Now into their fourth generation of family ownership, the current custodian, Claudio Fenocchio, is proudly adapting all of his vineyards to fully organic status and focuses on all the incredible wines the appellations of Barolo, Barbaresco and surrounding areas can offer. Barolo Castellero 2017 is taken from plantings along a westerly-facing ridge between the cru sites of Bussia and Castellero. The Nebbiolo grapes were hand-harvested and aged for 36 months in Slavonian oak prior to bottling and release. The colour is the classic intense garnet red of Barolo; the nose is intense with notes of sour cherry, liqourice, leather and spice. The palate is structured with marked tannins and a long, velvety, savoury-sweet finish. A perfect pair with mature cheeses or game.
